Ingredients
Makes approximately 4 servings
Chicken Burgers
- 1 lb ground chicken
- ½ yellow onion, finely chopped
- 1 egg
- ¼ cup breadcrumbs
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- ½ teaspoon dried rosemary
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt, to taste
- Cracked black pepper, to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil, for cooking
- 4 slices smoked Gouda
- 4 burger buns, toasted
Caramelized Onions
- ½ yellow onion, thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon butter
Garlic Aioli
- ¼ cup mayonnaise
- 1 small garlic clove, minced
- 1–2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
Instructions
1. Prep the Onion & Garlic
Peel and mince the garlic. Finely chop half of the yellow onion for the burgers and thinly slice the other half for the caramelized onions.
2. Caramelize the Onions
Heat the olive oil (1 Tbsp) and butter (1 Tbsp) in a small skillet over medium-low heat. Add the sliced onion and cook for 20–25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until soft and golden.
3. Make the Chicken Burgers
In a large bowl, combine the ground chicken, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, egg, mayonnaise, minced garlic, rosemary, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined.
4. Shape & Cook the Burgers
Shape the chicken mixture into 4 flat patties. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the patties and cook for about 6–7 minutes per side, or until browned and the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
5. Make the Garlic Aioli
In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, minced garlic, and fresh lemon juice. Stir until smooth.
6. Melt the Cheese
Top each cooked chicken burger with a slice of smoked Gouda. Allow the cheese to melt over the warm burgers.
7. Assemble the Burgers
Spread garlic aioli onto the toasted buns, then add the chicken burgers and caramelized onions. Serve with a side salad or your favorite vegetables and enjoy!
Meal Prep & Storage
Store cooked chicken burgers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Keep the burgers, caramelized onions, aioli, and buns separate and assemble when ready to eat.
